Linden City Schools State Report Card

As released by the Alabama State Department of Education on Dec. 14, 2023, the Linden City School System earned a 79 (C) on its ALSDE report card. Linden City received the following federal accountability indicators/academic indicator scores: a 46.30% in academic achievement, a 100% in academic growth, a 79.31% in graduation rate, a 13.66% in chronic absenteeism, and a 68.97% in college and career readiness.

Each school also received an individual score for the 2022-2023 academic year. Linden Elementary School received an 83 (B), which is 13 points higher from the 70 (C) it received in 2021-2022. George P. Austin Junior High School received a score of 76 (C), which surpassed the 65 (D) it received in 2021-2022 by 11 points, and Linden High School’s score for this year reflected an ID (insufficient data), which was a 61 (D) in 2021-2022. Linden City Schools' superintendent, Dr. Timothy Thurman, explained that the reason being is that Linden High School had the smallest graduating class that it has ever had, which consisted of only 19 students during the 2022-2023 academic year, and you have to have 20 students to be assigned a grade. However, if LHS was assigned a grade, it would be documented as a 75 (C) for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Dr. Timothy Thurman, board members, and administrators celebrated the results of the district's scores as posted on the ALSDE Report Cards.

Dr. Thurman is especially ecstatic about what they did at George P. Austin. He praised the work of former principal, Gwendolyn Rogers, who was at GPA prior to moving to the Central Office in another capacity. Dr. Thurman stated, “She was able to lead her faculty in efforts to help in student achievement in all subject areas after obtaining the role of the administrator for one year.”

The Linden City School District, as a whole, scored 79 (C), up by 11 points from last year's 68 (D). "We want to thank our administrators, faculty, and students for an awesome job last year," said Dr. Thurman. He also added, "I don’t want us to just maintain, I want us to exceed what we have already done."
