Dr. Thurman

After years of planning, work on constructing a new Linden High School is expected to begin this summer. Linden City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Timothy Thurman, indicated that all the money needed for the about $7 million makeover is coming together. The former Fun Factory property, which was supposed to be the site of the new school, was acquired by the Board of Education around two years ago. It is located next to the LHS Football Stadium. Nonetheless, Dr. Thurman said that by constructing the new facility on the site of the current high school, the system will be able to save money by repurposing some of the campus's existing buildings while still constructing brand-new classrooms.

Sewell & McKee, the architects, are currently working on the final plans and should have the models available within the next month. "Work should start this summer, barring any unforeseen obstacles, and it shouldn't interfere with current school operations when the 2024–25 school year starts in August. This will be very beneficial as it will eliminate the need to relocate and relocate students, as was the case when G. P. Austin Jr. High School was renovated.

Dr. Thurman indicated that the $1.1 million grant from Alabama Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth, along with the one-cent sales tax for schools that the County Commission approved two years prior, "got us over the top" in funding for the project. Thurman believes the community, parents, and students will be elated when the new facility opens. "This is something that I have worked for, hoped for, and prayed for for years," he continued. "Our children deserve the best and that's what we are about to give them."
